When Life Gives You Tangerines Rebuilds Decades with 2.5D VFX
Foundry · Production Workflow

What happened
M83 supervisor Song Yong-gu explains how the team reconstructed changing versions of Jeju and Seoul for When Life Gives You Tangerines. Historical research, production-design collaboration, matte paintings and 2.5D projections supported the environments, with an ACES pipeline keeping 2D and 3D work aligned. Why it matters
Environment work does not always require a complete 3D rebuild. Projections and carefully selected geometry can supply the depth needed for a particular camera move.
Antique Robots take
Decide the representation from the shot. Reference quality, camera movement and revision needs should determine where a matte painting is sufficient and where dimensional assets earn their cost.
