American Cinematographer · News Article

What happened

Hoyte van Hoytema and the lighting team developed battery-powered, pyramid-shaped LED fixtures for The Odyssey’s nighttime Troy sequence. The units could run programmed fire effects or play flame footage across their LEDs, creating a mobile source that throws light in several directions. Why it matters

Custom hardware solved a physical shooting problem: distributing convincing firelight across a large location where real flames and conventional rigs were unsuitable.
